DESCRIPTION:Get training in URSTRONG’s whole-school friendship strategy and award-winning curriculum\, Friendology 101!\nDana Kerford (Founder & Friendship Expert) & Tyson Greenwood (Director of URSTRONG Schools & Implementation Expert) will share how URSTRONG Schools are enhancing the social-emotional wellbeing of children through friendship skills. Educators will learn URSTRONG’s language\, skills\, and strategies along with the research supporting SEL (social-emotional learning) and evidence behind URSTRONG’s impact in schools globally. \nThe first live class will take place on Wednesday 2 November from 4.00pm to 5.00pm (AEDT\, Sydney/Melbourne). Video sessions along with follow-up activities will be assigned that focus on the following topics: \n\nThe Science of Friendships – exploring the science behind social-emotional wellbeing and why friendship skills must be prioritized in schools.\nThe Language of Friendship – a detailed overview of URSTRONG’s core concepts\, including the language and skills that are central to our whole-school friendship strategy.\nFriendology 101 – showing educators how to utilise our curriculum\, Friendology 101\, as a school-wide friendship framework. DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This is a private Friend-o-Leader Training session with Future Year 10 students at Mount Lilydale Mercy College! \n\nMany of our URSTRONG Schools have successfully launched a peer mentorship model\, where older students support the younger students in their friendships at recess time. \nResearch shows that peer mentoring has positive outcomes for everyone involved. The Building Effective Peer Mentoring Programs in Schools\, published by The Mentoring Resource Center & U.S. Department of Education\, identifies positive impacts for mentees including: \n\nConnectedness to school and peers\nFeelings of competency and self-efficacy\nGrades and academic achievement\nProsocial behavior and attitudes\n\nFor mentors\, there have been reported improvements in: \n\nConnectedness to school\nSelf-esteem\nEmpathy and moral reasoning\nIntrapersonal communication and conflict resolution skills\nRelationships with parents\n\nOur URSTRONG Schools who’ve already launched mentorship models consistently report that children feel more comfortable talking to another student\, rather than a teacher\, about their friendship issues. \n

Educators will learn URSTRONG’s language\, skills\, and strategies along with the research supporting SEL (social-emotional learning) and evidence behind URSTRONG’s impact in schools globally. \nIn addition to two live classes\, video sessions along with follow-up activities will be assigned that focus on the following topics: \n\nThe Science of Friendships – exploring the science behind social-emotional wellbeing and why friendship skills must be prioritized in schools.\nThe Language of Friendship – a detailed overview of URSTRONG’s core concepts\, including the language and skills that are central to our whole-school friendship strategy.\nFriendology 101 – showing educators how to utilise our curriculum\, Friendology 101\, as a school-wide friendship framework. Educators will learn how to access the curriculum online\, along with hundreds of lesson plans to enhance students’ friendship skills.\nTransforming into a URSTRONG School – guiding educators to craft an implementation plan\, plus review the supporting documents available to URSTRONG Schools.
