DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This is a private Friend-o-Leader Training session with Future Year 10 students at Mount Lilydale Mercy College! \n\nMany of our URSTRONG Schools have successfully launched a peer mentorship model\, where older students support the younger students in their friendships at recess time. \nResearch shows that peer mentoring has positive outcomes for everyone involved. The Building Effective Peer Mentoring Programs in Schools\, published by The Mentoring Resource Center & U.S. Department of Education\, identifies positive impacts for mentees including: \n\nConnectedness to school and peers\nFeelings of competency and self-efficacy\nGrades and academic achievement\nProsocial behavior and attitudes\n\nFor mentors\, there have been reported improvements in: \n\nConnectedness to school\nSelf-esteem\nEmpathy and moral reasoning\nIntrapersonal communication and conflict resolution skills\nRelationships with parents\n\nOur URSTRONG Schools who’ve already launched mentorship models consistently report that children feel more comfortable talking to another student\, rather than a teacher\, about their friendship issues. \n
