DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This is a private Friend-o-Leader Training session with Future Year 10 students at Mount Lilydale Mercy College! \n\nMany of our URSTRONG Schools have successfully launched a peer mentorship model\, where older students support the younger students in their friendships at recess time. \nResearch shows that peer mentoring has positive outcomes for everyone involved. The Building Effective Peer Mentoring Programs in Schools\, published by The Mentoring Resource Center & U.S. Department of Education\, identifies positive impacts for mentees including: \n\nConnectedness to school and peers\nFeelings of competency and self-efficacy\nGrades and academic achievement\nProsocial behavior and attitudes\n\nFor mentors\, there have been reported improvements in: \n\nConnectedness to school\nSelf-esteem\nEmpathy and moral reasoning\nIntrapersonal communication and conflict resolution skills\nRelationships with parents\n\nOur URSTRONG Schools who’ve already launched mentorship models consistently report that children feel more comfortable talking to another student\, rather than a teacher\, about their friendship issues. \n

SUMMARY:Language of Friendship for URSTRONG Families
DESCRIPTION:Please note: This is a special complimentary workshop for members of the URSTRONG Families community.\nThrough interactive parent-child activities\, parents will learn language & strategies to support their child to create healthy\, feel-good friendships. This session will review concepts taught at URSTRONG Schools through our Friendology 101 curriculum to reinforce a common “language of friendship” including: \n\nThe 4 Friendship Facts\nThe Friend-o-Meter\nThe Friend-o-Cycle\nFriendship Fires vs Mean-on-Purpose\n\n\nParents will also be directed to useful activities in their free URSTRONG Family membership! \nThis session is for ALL AGES! We will be addressing how friendships change & evolve\, providing strategies for all ages – even adults. \nYounger children are invited to bring along a soft toy for role-playing activities and there will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the session! \n  \n\nImportant Notes:  \n\nThis session will take place via Zoom. You will receive an email with the zoom details\, along with a reminder email the day of the event. \nA recording of the session\, available for only 7 days\, will be sent after the event.\nThis session will take place at 6pm Sydney/Melbourne time.
